East Coast Could See Major Snow Next Week

It’s that time of year again, wait, it’s still fall? We have already had a major winter storm in the Northeast, and it could happen again next week. The GEFS ensembles are indicating some ind of coastal low around the 28th or 29th next week. Who gets what or how much is still unclear. But there is an increasing likelihood of a major East Coast snowstorm next week.

The jet stream will dip down into the Deep South next week, which is a signal forĀ  a large area of low pressure. The ensemble mean is shown below.

The regular GFS is much more bullish on a very deep area of low pressure just off the coast during this timeframe. Depending on how much cold air will be in place, this could be a sign of trouble.

Could this be just a Nor’easter that produces mostly rain for the major metropolitan areas? Of course. However the key point is that somebody could be receiving heavy amounts of snow next week.
