2017 Chances of a White Thanksgiving

What are the chance of seeing a white Thanksgiving this year? First, we have to define what a white Thanksgiving is. What we will be discussing here is simply snowflakes being reported. That will count as a “White Thanksgiving.” Of course, anywhere that has actual accumulation will also be considered a White Thanksgiving.

With multiple disturbances, Clippers, and storms moving down the jet stream from Canada, cold shots will follow. Behind these cold shots will be lake-effect snows in the typical locations, northwest PA, western NY and OH.

The following image and legend show what we think the odds are fora  a White Thanksgiving for 2017.

ODDS OF A WHITE THANKSGIVING

A – 30-40 %

B- 20-30 %

C – 10-20 %

D- Less than 10 %

The odds are not really in favor anywhere there is plain map, or no shading. The highest chances this year will be in the higher elevations, and also any region where there is typically lake-effect snows.
