Arctic Outbreak for Plains, Cold Air Spills East

A blast of Arctic air will spill across the nation’s midsection during the first week of March. Most of the coldest air will be over the upper Midwest and Mississippi river valley.  The cold likely makes it to the coast in NC northward. Even Charleston goes below normal.

However it is not expected to last long due to the time of year. Official Meteorology spring is March 1st. But it will get cold, and won’t stay that way. Storm potentials are really up in the air right now, as it is too early to determine if any snow will fall in the Southeast.

Below is the upcoming cold forecast blended with analogs for similar events this time of year and others. NOAA likely looked at the below approach.

Don’t put those snow plows away just yet, or firewood, stay stocked up through mid-Month!
