Big Changes Coming This Weekend

11-17-2016

Enjoy the beautiful weather, since it will not last for long at all. Warm weather and above average temperatures will dominate through the end of this work week, however on Friday a powerful cold front will push through Chicago, bringing a drastic drop in temperatures, along with some blinding rain and thunder. Some of the storms could be strong to severe.

Cold front pushes through Chicago Friday night.

On the back side of the front, snow will be flying across Wisconsin and Minnesota, and with some heavy accumulations. The front will then push east on Saturday.

By sunrise Sunday, we can expect the front to be offshore. Cold and windy conditions will prevail for Sunday across much of the East Coast. We can also expect to see lake-effect snows across Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Flurries could even make it all the way down to Philadelphia. The main noticeable difference will be the cold.

Snow amounts across the Dakotas and Minnesota will generally range from 3-6″, however some areas could receive up to a foot, mainly in Minnesota. Then the snow pushes east, but will not be as fierce. Lighter accumulations in the Northeast will likely be limited to the mountains. It might even be hard to get anything to stick since it’s been so warm at lower levels.

One thing is for certain – it will become very COLD this weekend across the East! Most trends are pointing in the direction of colder than average temperatures through the end of this month. Get your firewood and fuel oil ready!
