Cold End to 2025; Sneak Peek at January

It’s the final day of 2025, and it will start out cold. These will be the MORNING lows on Wednesday, 12/31, New Year’s Eve! By New Year’s Eve NIGHT, temperatures will not be quite as cold, but more likely in the 30s rather than 20s away from the coast. Low 40s likely near the coast but could be some spotty upper 30s.

How about the beginning of January? There is a lot of chatter on social media about potential snow and more cold chances.

However, what I am seeing is temperatures becoming more mild, and there will be some cold air damming episodes, with cold high pressure to our north. So, it will be cold at times and overall seasonal, but nothing extreme, especially for the first week or so of January.

There could be some storm systems showing up on the models, but it will be too warm for much of our region to get any snow. At least for the first week of January or so.

After then, the pool of cold air in western Canada, which is our cold air source, will start to erode according to the Euro ensemble. But January conditions can change on a moment’s notice, so we will have to stay on top of things.

Happy New Year, and remember to leave 2025 in the past!
