Early Season Heatwave to Sizzle the Southeast

A heatwave will be taking shape this week and will set in later this week and into Memorial Day Weekend. Along with the heat will come the humidity, and will cause heat indices to soar, especially farther south. This will cause potentially dangerous conditions to be outside for an extended period of time.

See the below map for the forecast heat index legend of the outlined areas on the map.

AREA A – Heat indices will likely be in excess of 100 degrees and humidity will cause these values to skyrocket, especially for the Lowcountry. This will be a bad place for any A/C units to fail.

AREA B – Heat indices will be 95-100 degrees.

AREA C – Heat indices will be from 90-95 degrees however they can approach 100 degrees in spots, especially in urban areas.

AREA D – Heat indices will be from 85-90 degrees mainly in the higher elevations.

Friday and Saturday looks like they could be the steamiest days with heat indices 95 -100 degrees +.

Saturday’s forecast from the WPC:

Everyone should find a way to stay cool, especially later this week and into the Holiday Weekend.
