Ensembles Show Cold and Stormy Next Weekend

12-11-2016

GEFS ensembles show a major area of low pressure, and thus COLD over southeastern Canada next weekend. We are looking at the 15th, Thursday, in the model image. This would be an extreme event, given that ensemble means are only an average, and in this case, the average is extremely low. That is COLD coming late next week, and signifies a possible significant winter storm.

The GFS deterministic model also shows the deep low forecast for late next week. Again, agreement with cold and stormy is present. Ensembles are more reliable than one single deterministic model especially as things change!

Bottom line is we will have to watch out for cold and snow next weekend from the South to the Northeast.
