Gordon Could Strengthen to Cat 2

Tropical Storm Gordon is currently lurking off the western FL coast, and will continue to move toward the LA coastline rapidly tonight and tomorrow. Landfall is expected just east of New Orleans around 2 am early Wednesday. The NHC projects that Gordon will be a hurricane, We are thinking either a Category 1 or Category 2 at most. If he becomes a Category 2, New Orleans could be in danger of extreme flooding including a levee breach.

Residents around New Orleans and Lake Ponchartrain should begin to take precautionary measures, such as getting gas in their vehicles and having a plan in case of extended power outages. Water may also be hard to find so make sure you stock up. Heed any orders to evacuate. Storm surge is the #1 killer in hurricanes as is flooding. Both are becoming likely with Gordon.

Below is the official forecast from the NHC:

Hurricane Warnings are up for parts of LA and also for the MS and AL coasts. Tropical storm warnings extend in the FL Panhandle and farther west of New Orleans. Some of the pumps are offline in New Orleans, so expect flooding and have a plan!
