Holiday Heat Will Sizzle the Southeast

The heat has arrived early this year, and we will feel it this weekend here in the Southeast. Temperatures may not be as high as first thought inland, but along the coast, it will be scorching hot. Heat indices will be over 100 degrees in Charleston and the SC coast.

The below map and legend indicates what kind of heat indices you can expect for your area Saturday and Sunday.

AREA A – Heat indices will be over 100 degrees F as air temperatures will be near 100. With the humidity, it will be unbearable outside, and dangerous.

AREA B – Heat indices will be from 95-100 degrees F. The humidity will still play a role, especially along the NC coast. Uncomfortable conditions.

AREA C- Heat indices will range from 90-98 degrees F. It may not be quite as hot as first thought. However, some locations could reach a heat index of 95-100.

AREA D- In the higher elevations, heat indices will range from 88-93 degrees.

The high-resolution NAM models indicates air temperatures of near 100 degrees for parts of eastern SC and GA. SC will be hotter overall than NC. Charlotte may only hit 90-93 degrees F for Saturday and Sunday, however there could be some local 95 degree readings.

Monday still looks hot, so stay tuned! We will post our numbers as newer data comes in.
