Idalia Ticks West, Tropical Storm Still Expected

With Idalia beginning a forecast intensification, the worst will be expected for Florida this week. Local authorities are expecting a category 4 at landfall, however official forecasts currently call for a 3. If it becomes a 4, then it’s possible the Lowcountry could see a category 1 hurricane.

Residents in Florida should plan for extended power outages due to high winds. If recommended to evacuate, we also recommend doing so.

The Lowcountry and Wilmington for now can expect to see a strong tropical storm. This includes 60mph + winds and tornadoes. Also expect extended power outages but not as bad as Florida. But extended power outages can be troublesome so gas up now and charge any electronic devices. Also medical equipment.

Below is the expected timing of Idalia. Please note the times and dates are only estimates.

This farther track west could mean more tornadoes for the coasts of SC and NC. Stay with us at CWA!
