Light Snow Likely in NC/VA Mountains Monday

For those that want to get something out of the winter storm that will affect the Northeast this weekend, there is some gratification. The mountains of western NC and VA could see some light snow amounts as colder air ushers in on Monday. The higher elevations will more likely see snow than the lower elevations. It is looking like the Appalachians from PA down into MD, WV, VA, and NC will experience an “upslope” snow event, where winds squeeze out moisture at they blow across the mountains. Boone and Banner Elk, NC could be seeing the flakes fly on Monday. No significant accumulations are expected. Tuesday morning many will see morning lows in the 30s, and may have to scrape frost off windshields.
