No Pronounced Warmth for First Half of April

SPRING DELAYED IN EARLY APRIL

Those of you who want spring to arrive, your plans might be on hold. However, there will be some occasional surges of warmth up the East Coast. But these surges will be short-lived and will be replaced by colder air from the northwest.

The first shot of cold air comes this weekend as a powerful cold front moves in from our west. There could be some severe weather associated with this as it presses east into the warmer and muggier air. This weekend we may need to be weather aware.

Below is the Canadian 850 mb temperature anomaly for around the 5th –

Which says that the cold starts around the 1st (NO April Fool’s) and will linger into the 5th at least. The Euro and GFS both agree that the cold will stick around, minus temporary warm surges.

Therefore, we would not recommend planting your gardens just yet, and protect any sensitive outdoor vegetation. And the snow threat is not over with yet, especially not for the Northeast states. The cooler weather across the South could make for perfect outdoor grilling conditions if you don’t like to be hot after cooking food outside in the warm.
