Southeast to sizzle by the end of this week

The Southeast is set to sizzle by the end of this week and into the weekend. Temperatures will slowly climb on Thursday, but then on Friday highs will top 90 degrees F in places such as Georgia and Florida. Some of these high temperatures will reach record high status. South Carolina will have highs in the upper 80s but don’t be surprised to see a few 90 degree readings.

The hottest days look to be Saturday and Sunday, where widespread 90 degree readings are likely in the pink. In the red, we are looking at highs in the mid to upper 80s.

These temperatures will likely last into Sunday, however by Monday it will not be quite as hot, with many readings dropping back down into the 70s and 80s. This only looks to be a 3 or 4 day heatwave maximum. The definition of a heatwave is 3 or more consecutive days with high temperatures of 90 degrees F or greater.

Plan to stay hydrated and safe, and drink plenty of water.
