Super Bowl Sunday Snow Threat Increasing

Confidence is increasing for a Super Sunday snow event, but not in the area you would normally think. This time, the mountains will benefit from snow, and even heavy in spots. There could be some locations that will receive upwards of a foot 12″.

While sleet will be the most wintry precip type for the Piedmont including Charlotte, most of the area is also expected to see a cold rain. In fact, the cold rain may extend more west into the light snow areas in the light blue above.

So it looks like the major cities will miss out on snow this time, but not Asheville or Johnson City. Greenville SC could even be in on the action. Elsewhere, a cold Super Bowl Sunday rain will be perfect for watching the game next to a fire.
