Arctic Chill Possible on Christmas Day

After a powerful cold front moves through next week, we will be in the freezer most likely starting on Christmas Eve and into Christmas Day. It’s not clear if there will be some kind of winter storm or not this far out as details are unknown. But it’s looking increasingly likely for some kind of cold wave affecting most of the eastern U.S. on the 25th. The cold does not look to remain as it will be transient, which means that milder air will replace the cold air soon after it moves away to the east.

Is there any chance of a Carolina white Christmas? The GFS was showing it a few days ago, but has now lost it. It appears that our chances at this time for a white Christmas are very low. This could change, and we may have to watch the pattern with the cold air given on Christmas.

For now there is a pretty good chance that Christmas will be cold this year, but as far as the white stuff that is still unknown!
