Bag of Wintry Tricks to Move up the Coast this Weekend

There is the potential for a wintry mess this weekend. Beginning on Sunday we will have to watch a piece of energy moving in from the west that could combine with a piece of energy in the southern jet stream, which could give us our winter storm. At this point, the forecast is tricky as to who sees rain or who sees snow. As of now, we are thinking that everything will be rain along the Southern coast, at least up to VA and the Delmarva. North of that location there is a good chance that everything will be all snow, except for possibly right along the coast.

Farther south, some strong storms could come ashore onto the FL Panhandle from the Gulf. These storms could reach severe limits if this storm gets it’s act together quick enough. The strong storms could also make it into southern GA. Orlando and perhaps farther south into South FL could also see rain from a cold front swinging through.

The GFS model has mainly rain for everyone across the South, however the Canadian has a wintry mix across NC and even down into GA. The forecast we used is a blend of both models. Realistically, the wintry mix should be limited to the foothills and mountains, and snow to the north.
