I have had the privilege of working along side some very talented meteorologists in the past. Whenever they make a call or forecast, I always take them very seriously. This one forecaster issued these maps last night, and according to the latest model trends and official forecasts, I can agree.
If this forecast verifies, Wilmington, Moorehead City, and Wrightsville Beach, NC are in for serious trouble.
The storm will take its time and meander along the coast, which is not surprising during light upper-wind steering events. Residents in Southeast VA may be spared for now, but still have to watch for tropical-storm force winds and flooding from storm surge since the wind would push water up along VA Beach.
Rainfall would also be another issue, with torrential flooding rains across much of the Carolinas. Depending on the storm track, some locations could receive up to TWO FEET of rain with locally heavier amounts.
If you live near water it’s time to think about getting to higher ground. Flood waters rise very rapidly and it may be too late to evacuate once the water has starting rising.
Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are not in the clear as far as receiving hurricane conditions.
