Early Season Tropical Trouble Spins up During El Nino

It’s not even July, and yet we are already able to talk about the tropics. This is not entirely unusual for this time of year, but typically during El Nino summers we don’t see as many tropical systems. But we now have a 60% chance of something forming in the Atlantic Basin.

It’s too early to know what this system will become, or where it will impact. For now, the official discussion is below:

Tropical Weather Outlook
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL

For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. Eastern Tropical Atlantic:
A tropical wave located between the west coast of Africa and the
Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganized showers and
thunderstorms. Environmental conditions appear to be conducive for
gradual development, and a tropical depression could form during the
early to middle portions of next week while the system moves
westward at 15 to 20 mph across the eastern and central tropical
Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...60 percent.

Forecaster Bucci

The waters are hot, so this season should be monitored should any tropical system develop. There are no immediate threats to land. This is just something to watch as is the rest of the coming months.

Have a great weekend!
