Early Start to Tropical Season?

Could we see our first named storm of the season, which would be Alex? Models are indicating some kind of potential subtropical trouble in the next 8 days or so. It’s very early in the season, therefore a strong system is highly unlikely if anything does develop.

What has everyone’s attention is this system may form off the Carolina coast, turn out to sea, but then may loop back towards the U.S. mainland. The exact track is unclear, however it does appear to be a very weak system. A strong storm is not looking too likely at this point.

This is just an interesting start to our tropical season of 2022, but it’s not completely unheard of to have subtropical systems forming in May. This one may not amount to much, just heavy rains, if anything. Or perhaps some kind of weak tropical storm.
