Extreme Cold Will Grip Much of the U.S. on New Year’s

Prepare for some serious cold on New Year’s Day and beyond. An extremely cold Arctic airmass will blast much of the United States as brutal tempatures will move in. Overnight lows into New Year’s Day are expected to be in the -20s to -10s, but with the wind chill, dangerous values of -40s to -50s could be reached. Take precautions if you live in the Plains or Midwest. The cold spills all the way down into Florida and Texas.

Pipes can freeze. Also make sure you have a backup heat source just in case. But be VERY careful with space heaters.

It will be cold and dry for the next 2 weeks or so, with some potential snow storms but nothing is garaunteed, and confidence is low since there is no moisture to work with. Bundle up and dress in layers!
