February 2019 Temperature Outlook

Today is the beginning of February, and the Central and Eastern US have endured an arctic outbreak over the past couple of days. We will be seeing some relief as temperatures are expected to climb above average, but will that persist for the long run? Here is our outlook for February:

This warmup period will not be around for long. We expect arctic air to reload in Canada, and by the second week of February drop down into the Central and Northeast/Mid-Atlantic.

Below, we will be examining January 2014, the last time Polar Vortex moved into the US.

Above is the first 10 days of January 2014, and notice the arctic air over the Central US, exactly what we just saw. Now here’s the next week after that:

Temperatures rebounded, and were above average, exactly what we are going to experience for early February this year.

Now here is a look at the rest of the month for January 2014:

The cold settles right back into the Central and Eastern US. Which is exactly what models are showing.

In weather, history likes to repeat itself and we are expecting this pattern to occur in February.
