Frigid Freezing Arctic Air will Invade Eastern U.S. Next Week

Well, summer is long gone, and we won’t know it more when temperatures take a tumble next week. And we are not talking about just a regular tumble. We are talking single digits for overnight lows in ATLANTA. 6-9 degrees F. The biggest concern for this type of cold is frozen pipes. So please, make sure that you take precautions to prevent frozen pipes, since they burst if they freeze, and then you have no water source.

Two meter temperature anomalies for early next week, shown are the GFS ensembles –

The lighter purple is the deep freezer. This is map is for departures from average (anomalies). Normal for this time of year is generally cold, however, WELL below normal is downright frigid. The center of the cold will likely be somewhere over the lower Midwest by this time next week (Monday).

Looking at the GFS deterministic model, it has Arctic temperatures across the northern U.S. Again, single digits all the way down into the ATL.

For this type of cold, it is best to not leave any skin exposed when you go outside. Hats, scarves, gloves, and maybe even dress in layers to stay warm. Pets should not be outside. Also, car batteries may go dead when you try to start your cars, so make sure your battery is in good condition before the cold hits.
