Major Winter Storm Expected End of Week

There is growing concern for a major winter storm for the 29th into the 30th this week. Friday am commute has the potential to be dicey at best as snow, sleet, and freezing rain are all on the table.

Impacts will start to be felt late Thursday across the South. Across NC and perhaps SC, ice is expected and conditions could turn nasty quickly into Friday morning. Snow, ice, and rain are expected for Southeast VA. Closer to the coast will likely be all rain. GFS snow totals are shown in the first image. Second image is forecast ice accretion. This has us worried as an ice storm is possible along with the snow.

The pattern will remain active with yet another winter storm moving through from late New Years Eve into New Year’s Day morning! This system  will mainly affect the South with a wintry mix and snow.

Expect wintry weather especially heading into late Thursday night and Friday!
