Hurricane Season Begins With First Atlantic System Possible This Week

As the remains of Hurricane Agatha move over the Yucatan Peninsula early this week post-Memorial Day, a tropical depression could develop in the Gulf. This system will remain unorganized, and will post no immediate threat to the Carolinas. However, south Florida may receive some heavy rains later this week.

And by heavy rains, we mean flooding downpours. Parts of South Florida including Miami may have parts underwater by the middle of the weekend. This weak tropical system is then expected to move off the eastern side of Florida and back out over open waters.

Below are the projected model tracks for this system.

Once over the open Atlantic this tropical system may become a strong tropical storm or weak hurricane. There does not appear to be any direct threat to the Carolinas other than rip currents at the beaches. This would not be until later this weekend or early next week.

Florida is the spot to watch this week. Not for us.
