More Canadian Wildfire Smoke Spells Unhealthy Air Quality

As the air quality status today is Unhealthy, which is a step above Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups, it is best to just stay inside today if you can. Fires in western Canada are the cause of our smoke. The upper-level wind pattern favors smoke transport from the Canadian Rockies all the way down to the Carolinas.

Once you get in your car and turn on the a/c, be sure to use the “recirculate” feature similar to the button shown above. That button will cause the air in your car to be recirculated and filtered, and not brought in from outside. This is safer since brining outside air into your car would also bring in the smoke.

If you must be outside, use an N95 mask (you may have one leftover from covid) since the fine particles of smoke can enter your lungs and cause damage.

If you workout or run outside, move it inside until the air quality improves, possibly later this week.

The idea is to protect your lungs by staying inside, and if you go out, use the recirculate button in your car and a mask if outside.
