For the Carolinas, we are looking at a wet first-half of Saturday, but then as the day progresses will will dry out for the most part, and will expect generally a rain-free Mother’s Day. However, locations further north will not be so dry.
An area of low pressure forms off the coast of Virginia late Friday night and into early Saturday. The low then takes a northward turn and will bring heavy surf and coastal flooding, plus beach erosion to the Jersey coast. Long Island and the southern New England coast are also in the crosshairs for this nor’easter. It won’t be extremely powerful, but it will be strong enough to bring disruptions to the coast.
After the storm brushes the southern New England coast, it then takes another turn into the Gulf of Maine, where it will further intensify. The coasts of Massachusetts including Boston, and coastal New Hampshire and Maine can expect to see gale-force winds this weekend, especially Sunday. Any boating interests along the New England coast and outdoor plans should be restricted this weekend.
Winds will pick up along the coast on Saturday, and will become strong to gale-force on Sunday especially along the New England coast. As always, consult the National Weather Service for the latest watches, warnings, and advisories. Heed their advice.
