Could we be using air conditioning and heat in the same week, yes we can. This week will consist of a wild ride with highs in the 80s reduced to the 60s by the end of the week.
High pressure will dominate the region this week and keep the Southeast clear and dry.
GFS MSLP and P-Type for 18z WED April 18th, 2018:
One thing to notice is that the high pressure center is located to the southeast of the Carolinas. This means that the air that is pumped into the region on Wednesday will be warm air and we could have temperatures making it into the 80s for highs on Wednesday.
Low pressure to the north though will move into the Northeast later this week, not affecting the Southeast, and knock that high pressure away from the region. After the system quickly moves out of the Northeast, another high pressure will build, except this one will be located in the Central Plains. This is significant because that means instead of warm air being pushed into the region, cooler air will be funneled into the Southeast causing temperatures to be knocked back down to below average.
GFS MSLP and P-Type for 12z FRI April 20th, 2018:
Even though cooler air moves in we will continue to be dry until the beginning of next week when we could see some wet weather move back into the region.
With the next round of wet weather possible next week temperature will continue to be below average as cooler air will continue to be filtered in from the Central Plains. Shown below is NOAA’s outlook valid from April 24th to April 30th.
