Windy Conditions With Power Outages Likely

It will be quite breezy at times inland here in Charlotte, however along the coast the winds will be howling tonight. A nor’easter is taking shape and will cause extensive damage for the Outer Banks. Winds will gust from 60-70 mph for the Outer Banks and 50-60 mph for much of Coastal NC and perhaps SC. Coastal Flooding along with beach erosion and even wind damage are the biggest threat, along with widespread power outages. The Outer Banks have been hit especially hard this season, and tonight will not be any better.

Farther inland the winds won’t be quite as strong, but we can expect some 30-40 mph gusts. There could be some tree branches down in roads and streets on Sunday morning. It will be a noisy night outside for many.

For everyone in eastern NC and SC tonight, travel is not advised, and staying home is the best idea. Do not attempt to clear downed power lines on your own, but rather contact your electric company.
