Growing Threat for Christmas Ice Storm Over Large Area

As colder air spills across the Plains on the 24th and 25th, there is a trend to watch, and that trend is ice. Freezing rain is possible all the way from Texas to Indiana. This will likely change as the event draws closer. This would be a huge issue for both Texas and Arkansas. The Ohio Valley all the way into PA would also be affected.

Ice is very dangerous and takes down trees and power lines, causing power outages for days. Also people can freeze with no heat, since it gets extremely cold during ice storms.

Any post or pre-Christmas travel plans should be taken with a grain of salt this year. Your safety is more important than getting somewhere on time, especially when a winter storm is involved.

The Canadian is not quite latching onto the idea yet but still has ice across Texas and Oklahoma and into Missouri. For now, the highest confidence for ice is in Texas and Oklahoma, since the GFS and Canadian both agree.
