The last thing we want to hear is that a flood-ravaged area will have to deal with more rain. Hopefully this is not the case and hopefully the disturbance is not too strong if it makes landfall. This is a piece of Florence that broke off in the Atlantic along a cold front, but could now be reforming into Kirk. This is most likely a rename due to the destructive power (flooding and winds) that Florence had and the name will be retired.
However that does not mean we can let our guards down along the Carolina coast. What is even more interesting is that the red area is the other part of Florence that broke off. I don’t see these two pieces of energy merging together to create a bigger storm. If anything they would have a Fujiwara effect on one another and repel each other out to sea.
Please watch Invest 98 L and potential Kirk especially along the SC/NC coasts. NC does NOT need any more rain but it is possible from this system if it makes landfall. The GEFS has the system creeping back to the Carolina coast, but the Euro barely has anything at all, which would be more welcome news since the Euro thinks the system will be much weaker.
This is not an end-of-the-world situation, at the worst it means more rain to deal with in already flooded areas. This is by no means a strong storm if it does potentially make landfall.
We also need to keep an eye on both areas in orange in the South Atlantic. These waves have a moderate chance of developing into something. Stay with us here at ECWA!
