More Active and Colder After New Year’s

It’s becoming more apparent that there will be a pattern change just after New Year’s to favor more cold and snow. While it’s not a given that the Carolinas will see snow, it’s a given that it will get cold again with temperatures being below normal. At this time, it’s difficult to pinpoint who will and won’t get snow. But pattern recognition is a thing, and it’s looking favorable for after the start of 2025.

Temperatures will likely hang around the freezing mark as an average, with highs in the upper 30s for many outside of the mountains, and lows in the 10s and 20s for most.

Below is the Euro Ensemble mean showing a large trough over the East Coast, or a sustained low pressure pattern:

This signifies a start of a more active storm track starting on or around the 3rd. From then on, it’s anyone’s game, and uncertainty exists, but cold and snow lovers may be able to rejoice. It is certainly looking more active and colder than the past two winters…
