Sunday we could see a line of gusty storms move through the western Carolinas, and could make its way to the coast. The CPC has issued a Slight Risk Level 2/5 in the bright purple below. The main threats will be damaging winds and maybe scattered power outages due to trees coming down on power lines. Fortunately, the Slight Risk does not extend into most of the mountains, however residents should still be aware of potentially threatening weather on Sunday.
TIMING:
The timing appears to be in the late morning for western NC, and later in the afternoon for Central locations and evening for the coast. Below is the GFS showing the line of storms moving through before 1pm:
Strong storms with damaging winds could cause scattered power outages as well as cause difficult travel in downpours with limited visibility. Charge phones and electronic devices before early Sunday morning and limit travel if possible.
It will be a rainy weekend for most with temperatures increasing into Sunday, warm with temps some 25 degrees F above average. Windy and wet.
New Years Eve is not looking completely rain-free, as an upper-level system skirts by to our north.
